Introduction: WindOCoat, Simply Paint On & Peel Off

The worldwide construction industry is successfully implementing use of WindOcoat. The liquid WindOcoat is applied by spray or roller and protects windows in transit ,during fitting, resisting mortar and plaster overspray and scratching.

The temporary protective peelable coating protects not only the glass but also the window frame and unlike conventional plastic films it will not become easily detached or leave any residue when removed by peeling. Many major construction projects and builders and developers are now adopting this preventative management system for windows and tubs which for a small investment can save on substantial repair or even replacement costs. The temporary protective coating is also used internally for the protection of floor, sanitary ware, and units.

Description: This economic Peelable coating is also used within the building industry for scratch and stain protection of sanitary parts, fittings, stainless steel, Work surfaces, valuable flooring such as floor tiles, marble and lacquered wooden floors can also be protected.

General Chemical Corp.’s WindOcoat liquid masking protective film is your solution to dirty and marred windows. Applied on window glass and frame, “WindOcoat” film protects everybody’s interests, whether it is the window manufacturer, construction supplier or contractor. Most importantly, it protects your relationship with your customer, as they get perfect, clean windows every time when construction is done.

The fast and furious Construction crews – hard-working, sure are not always the careful and cautious. By the time everyone is finished, the windows are filthy and many items damaged. In addition, labels create “ghosting,” leaving a distracting visual blemish. Cleaning up this mess at the end of the job is a hassle, taking up valuable time and labor. Even worse, damaged glass must be reordered and replaced.

WindoCoat can solve this job-site dilemma.

Because the liquid film is applied at the factory or construction site, crews do not have to waste time and later removing protective coverings such as tapes, films, sprays, etc. Other makeshift fixes like newspaper or cardboard are not ideal either, and they block out light. WindoCoat is clear, so natural light still shines into the interior of the structure.

WindoCoat saves you time, money and a lot of hassle.

Without WindoCoat, glass generally requires at least two heavy-duty cleanings before a job is finished. A recent market research study found that WindoCoat could save lots of dollars per construction project in cleanup costs.

With WindoCoat, you can say goodbye to these time- and money-wasting cleanups. At the end of construction, WindoCoat peels off in one easy, smooth motion, taking all the accumulated dirt and labels with it. What’s more, clean windows can mean a shorter punch list. So your customers could get paid sooner. They may even be able to reduce their liability insurance premiums.

Finally, because WindoCoat contains no harmful chemicals or by-products, it can be disposed of with the rest of normal construction site debris.

So WindoCoat your windows. It protects the glass, reduces cleanup times, and keeps your customers happier. And helps deliver a beautiful home, with glistening new windows. Clean windows.

Our Coatings are liquid. Compared to extruded film type time consuming costly process below. Current construction process is time consuming and costly taping.

WindOcoat is a liquid and can be applied via spray or roller.

Customer Comments

“We have been asked to protect windows by a facade contractor who is going to be spraying the above product onto the surface of finished concrete. They wish to protect the windows from splashes of this coating and I would like you to check whether this Clear glaze coating would have any effect on dry film of WindOcoat 4930. I am also supplying a sample for them to test in conjunction with the coating. Product data sheet for the Clear glaze attached.”

Our Recommendation: Robert, The overspray, should not damage WindOcoat 4930. The clear concrete coating sounds like an acrylic resin cut in Ketone and aromatic solvents. The clear coat is quite fast in evaporation at 25C. We are talking about overspray for direct spray on your Glaze can do damage. In other words, short evaporation times of solvent based coatings, under 2 minutes, will not damage your Glaze, but prolong solvent penetration over 4 minutes can cause a problem.

“Hello, I am looking for a sprayable or brushable translucent coating to protect thin glass greenhouse panels from breakage and releasing glass shards and debris into the greenhouse. What would you recommend?”

Our Recommendations: Windocoat 4580 is a water based peelable coating that can be applied to interior or exterior glass by airless spray, roller or brush. The coating cures by water evaporation and goes from white to clear. Cured, clear film is water resistant and is easy to peel from glass.

Recommendations for a customer:
Hello Mr. Goh and thank you for your inquiry.

Our WindOcoat line of temporary protective peelable coatings are non hazardous, water based coatings designed to protect glass, aluminum, and other non porous surfaces during transportation and installation in addition to the potential damage throughout the construction process. These coatings are resistant to paint, concrete splatter, scratch and minor impact damage. They can be used indoors and out and can remain pliable and peelable for extended periods of time.

These coatings are applied via airless sprayer, roller, or brush. When no longer needed they can be peeled in a sheet or power washed off and discarded with no environmental impact. They contain no VOC’s and are biodegradable.
One gallon will cover approximately 20 to 22 square meters. We do offer discounts based upon volume. I have attached a link to our WindOcoat product page as well as a link to all our construction related products. There are videos demonstrating application and removal at these links.

Response: “Hi Gene, the testing carried has been showing positive results so far. We would like to place an order for 20,000m2 of glass surface area for our secured project which will be installing in March 2010. How much gallons you reckon we need for the above mentioned area? Kindly advise the payment mode and expected delivery time.
As for the airless spray gun do you supply the whole kit and how much is it? Wishing you a Happy New Year. Warmest Regards” – EK Goh

“Virtually eliminates window repairs and reduces clean up costs during construction and renovation. This protective coating for windows is removed in one piece like a big garbage bag enclosing all trash and debris revealing a window in showroom condition! The total cost adds less than $100 of coating to an average $175,000 home!”

“I am evaluating alternative protection materials for vertical and horizontal extruded aluminum and glass surfaces (curtain wall systems). Your product looks promising and I would like additional information. Your website indicates the product is best applied using a sprayer, although it does depict application with a roller and mentions use of a brush. Can the product be successfully applied using any of these application methods?

We are looking at protection of these materials for up to two years from other trades and foot traffic; the project is for several multi-story buildings and an all-glass bridge. Have you conducted tests of this product on extruded aluminum? Has it been tested on surfaces over a period of time e.g. 2 years for maintenance of protective properties and ease of removal? Since these are finished surfaces, it is imperative that no residue is left behind from the protective products.”

Our Recommendation: Windocoat 4880 will cover 190 to 200 square feet. Your account has 2842 square meters. Square meter = 10.764 square feet. You need to cover 30592 square feet. Need a minimum of 3 drums. 165 gallons
The mirror surface of the elevator(lift) for high buildings need to be covered and protected before installation and operation. Currently, most lift manufacturers cover and protect the mirror surface of their lifts by adhesive plastic films in China. Mirror front is glass, therefore our water based WindOcoat (clear) or WindOcoat 4880 (blue) will work well for this application.

“Can you tell me the temperature range for application and exposure for the above product?”

Our Recommendation: Best way to apply Windowcoat 4880 is by airless spray. This product is formulated not to sag of wet film 24 mils thick. The product can be applied from 60F to even to 120 F. The product once the water has evaporated can withstand temperature of -20F to + 140F and still be flexible to peel in one sheet. The peeling has to be accomplished at 60 to 100F.
Below 60 the coating is on the brittle side and above 110 it is too soft and stretches on peel.
This coating is good on the outdoor exposures up to 12 months.

UV Exposure Study: The two sets of pictures represent the equivalent to 6 months and 12 months exposure to UV light using a controlled irradiance water cooled xenon arc apparatus and run to SAE J1960 accelerated exposure of automotive exterior materials.

Three sets of coatings were tested:
1) WindOcoat 4880 – as is (on the left)2) WindOcoat 4880 – with UV adds (middle)3) competitor’s product (on the right)
Overall all sets exposed quite well and the test resulted in good integrity. 4930 and the competitor’s product presented very similar results whereas the 4930UV was almost perfect after the 6 month test and much better than the other two after the 12 month conditions.
Peeling of the two WindOcoat 4930 was very easy. The competitor’s 6 months was resisting peeling but OK whereas the 12 month competitor’s was hard to peel back – it is very stretchy and has fairly good adherence to glass and it required some effort to peel back.

Patch Test: Because it is difficult to determine the type of substrate of the window frame such as type of acrylic ,perform a small test first. This will determine 4930 effectiveness, coverage, and the approximate amount of time required for it to work.

Testimonials

“Before we started using WindOcoat we had (problems with) scratches, rust stains, discoloration and repairs. With WindOcoat our problems…disappeared. It is a great product.”

“Dear Mike, We had only a small sample. We used a brush to apply the material to a window at my home as we did not have enough material to prime a pump and spray it on.

We were concerned that the material allow light in, that it peel after being over-painted, that it provided a clear surface after peeling, that it not create any problem when over sprayed onto adjacent wood trim.

The material, brushed on, performed well. We were able to score it with a razor and peel it from the wood, it allowed light, it left a clean surface when peeled, it didn’t stick to anything. We will now apply with an airless sprayer and hope to repeat the findings.” – Sincerely, Bill
