Introduction: Metal Protection
Temporary protective Peelable masks are used to protect metal parts from corrosion or damage during handling, shipping, and storage. Parts are brushed or sprayed on with Metal_Protect. When dried, the resilient, air-tight, strippable coating protects the parts until they are needed.
Parts need to combat the hazards during shipping, storage or while in transit that they face.

Preservation System: Our Peelable coatings are used for long term preservation for the external storage of vehicles and equipment saving the use of internal storage space and also when they are loaded on deck, protected from the corrosive elements during the long sea voyage .
Similar applications apply to any components that may be exposed to the elements for long periods of time that would be affected by U.V. degradation, acid rain or corrosion. The General Chemical Preservation System Peelable maskants are non toxic, non flammable and the water borne skin tight film will not damage plastic or painted surfaces.
The General Chemical’s temporary protective coatings are water borne non-toxic and non-hazardous products which is applied by lamb’s wool roller. It peels away cleanly leaving no residue and will not damage plastics or painted surfaces.
General Chemical strippable coating is also used to protect heavy traffic areas and sensitive surfaces against staining and abrasion during construction, storage and transport. Simply roll on and peel off on completion. The tough film is weather-resistant, UV and solvent resistant.

Our Recommendations: MetalProtect 5000 is a water based peelable coating that cures upon water evaporation to a clear hard film. This coating has anti corrosive additives to protect metals from corrosion. Just dip the blades and let the coating dry. If too thick than reduction with water would be necessary
“A unique request, however I would like to see if we can solve the problems a. They currently use a wax type coating to cover the blades. To be in line with the new consumer act they need the blade covered thick, more than ordinary paint microns, almost like a lump of peelable coating, and they would like to try and do this with a peelable coating. It only needs to survive the retail store and the transport there. In essence they would like a really think application of peelable coating on the edge of the blade.”
Our Recommendations: MetalProtect 5000, as is, would be the proper coating for this application. Just dip the blade and let the coating dry. The uncured coating is white and the cured coating is clear. MetalProtect is a water based peelable coating formulated for rust inhibition of metals. Since presently they use wax, than MetalProtect 5000 would be a much easier and better approach to metal protection and much easier removal at destination point. No wax, no mess. Just peel.
“I did read your advertisement on the “net” after looking for a suitable peel-off temporary coating for our ships hull topside. At this moment we are building an FPSO 110.000 tonnes at shipyard, Singapore. Between the coating application on the topside (green) and the delivery there will be a big outfitting process ongoing which will give a considering amount of contamination on my Polyurethane finish coat.

Standard air assisted, or airless spray equipment, Brush or Roller (Use lambs wool roller).
Using standard good atomizing spray equipment (eg. DeVilbiss MBC gun, FF nozzle and No 765 air cap) with pressure feed, a 100 micron (0.004″) film can be applied to a vertical surface in one coat. Atomization pressure of 5ATM (75lbs/sq in) and sufficient pot pressure (0.3 ATM – 5lbs/sq in) to obtain proper fluid delivery is recommended. Airless spray can also be used such as Graco No 205-904 with a 163-168 insert and a 28:1 ratio pump. Use water only for cleaning spray equipment. Drying can be accelerated by circulation of warm air or infra red lamps.
When spraying over freshly lacquered or re-enameled surfaces, allow 24 for lacquer to dry and allow full enamel cure before applying peelable coatings. Be sure to apply full film thickness of 100 microns (0.004″). On equipment to be stored for many months exposed to rain, sun and snow, it is recommended that a 200 micron (0.008″) film of Strippable coating be applied in two coats, drying one hour between coats. This is a water based compound and should be protected from freezing. Recommended storage temperature is 100°C-32o°C.
Try to avoid ‘feather edges’ or areas where it is applied thinly. In order to achieve a defined edge it may help to apply masking tape, roller up to and over the tape and remove tape while Our Peelable coatings Peelable coating is still wet.
If the Our Peelable coating film rips or tears, the flap may be lifted and resealed by applying a fresh wet coat to the underside and resealing. Alternatively, cut away flap and re-apply fresh coating, it will bond to itself.
External Weather Resistance:
Long-term exposure to sunlight will cause premature deterioration and brittleness of the film. Exposure to water after the film is dried will soften the film but it will recover once it dries. Avoid traffic over the wet or while the film is wet. If components are to be stored externally for several weeks we recommend the application of acrylic topcoat which will protect for 12 months and more.
